ADVOCACY AGENDA

advocacy Agenda

Our Core Focus Areas

Members of UNA-USA encourage the U.S. to develop and support bilateral and multilateral policies that reinforce U.S. leadership in international affairs and support the United Nations as a vital institution in fostering peace and security. The Advocacy Agenda is set by the Steering Committee of the Council of Chapters and Regions.

UN Funding
Payment of our nation's UN regular budget and peacekeeping dues on time, in full, and without conditions; continued fair share of voluntary contributions to UN organizations.

Human Rights
Increase awareness about the positive work being performed by the UN Human Rights Council and specialized agencies.

International Treaties/Conventions
Senate passage of key international UN agreements that we have signed but the U.S. has not yet ratified.  Priorities include Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), and Law of the Sea (LOS).

Millennium Development Goals
Encourage U.S. support and payment of its fair share of international funding to achieve the eight MDG's adopted in 2000 by all member states to reduce poverty and enhance international cooperation for development by 2015.  Priorities include ensuring environmental sustainability, promoting gender equality and empowering women, and eradicating extreme poverty and hunger.
